Another CLI

Postby MB131174 » Sat May 09, 2015 5:37 pm

In 2014 I rage closed my Discover card. Reopened a new one in the same year and they started me off with $2,000. Kind of insulting because of having: Diners Club at $15,000 and a Chase card at $15,000 plus a Citi MC at $8,000 and a BofA Visa at $8,000. Whatever. I was able to get them to get me up to $3,000 after 3 months in November 14. I got a HP increase after that of $500. Whooptee doo. Then an auto increase of $250. Wow. #sarcasm. Anyway, that took me to $3,750. Within the last 3 weeks I used the online increase button and got not one, but two, $1,000 SP increases. Now my Discover is at $5,750 which I never thought would happen. Discover seems to be handing out CLI's like candy lately.

Yeah I know. It's totally out of character for them. But I'm happy about it. I really want to get my IT to 10k. I honestly never thought that was possible either.

I think they are responding to the market - they were recently pretty much THE most conservative non subprime lender. Even Cap One loosened up on their subprime cards, so I think Discover had to follow suit to some degree.

It's worked out well for us. I'm happy to give them swipes.

Good to hear you rage closed it. If you are going to close you might as well do it all out.

Yes, rage closing is the way to close it. (See what I did there?)

I'm very glad I had second thoughts and reopened an account with them. Amex pissed me off big time and I rage closed 3 out of 4 cards (BCE, Plat and a Biz card) but kept 1 open for the free shop runner after they gave me a CLD. Discover has become my sole-use card - literally for everything. Even the light bill is auto-paid on my Discover. American customer service is just the icing on the cake with my second rodeo with them. So far I've referred 2 people and have gotten $100 out of it.

I have seen the Discover CLI hoopla on MyFico. I logged on to do it but had second thoughts. I finally got my Discover More to $10K in 2014 (after 15 years) and I am good with that; so I canceled out. Now when I log in where it used to say "see if you qualify for a limit increase" it just says free FICO.

Congrats on your increases.
