Just in case any hockey fans are here - the Discover It card now has designs for all teams in the NHL. Ordered my Penguins card today.

I just noticed that today. The site makes it look like it is an entirely separate card product, but it is the same rewards program as the regular It card (not counting the 10% off perk at the shop.NHL.com - which is {at least currently} an instant savings Discover Deal anyway).

It sounds like these are just other designs any It cardholder can get?

I logged into Discover and chatted with someone about it... it does look like a separate product, but they told me it was just a card design. I went ahead and ordered a Nashville Predators card. :)

They did tell me something that should be considered... this card has no magnetic strip, only a chip. It could cause an issue at some merchants, but I don't really care, I just a Predators card.
Arsenal:
Discover it [3/12, $2,500]
Amex BCE [5/13, $25,000, bd 9/12]
Chase Freedom [1/13, $5,500]
SunTrust Cash Rewards [4/14, $7,000]
Bank of America Travel Rewards [9/15, $6,000]

You spoke with a very misinformed rep. The cards do have a mag stripe.

Yeah, I thought it was very odd for them to say. I got notification this morning that the card has been overnighted, so I should find out what they sent me on Monday.

For as wonderful as their website and mobile apps are once you are a cardholder, Discover could make it much more clear when applying for a product. It's like they want you to see only the it card, and you really have to hunt if you're looking for anything else. I can't recall how many comments I have seen on the forum from people confused about how to apply for a chrome, student version of it, etc.

Yea if you did not know about it then you would never know they have a student IT card. Maybe they don't want to be giving so much rewards to students.
Discover IT - $5,700
Chase Freedom - $5,700
Costco Citi - $13,000
Sallie Mae - $4,000
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $6,000
Chase Sapphire Reserve - $19,500
Citi Double Cash - $6,500
Amex BCE - $13,000

FICOs: Discover (777), SallieMae (764), Amex (767), Citi (772)
FAKOs: CK- TU (760), EQ (760)

It's just odd to offer such similar cards as different products requiring different login IDs.

I know that Discover probably can't profitably combine all of these into one card:
1. 5% rotating categories
2. Special offers and shopping discounts
3. Year-round 2% gas and dining rewards
4. 1.5% base cash back
5. $30 in wifi credits
6. 2x base rewards for the first year

Still, they could probably manage to offer:
5% rotating categories, special offers/discounts, 1.25% base cash back, and a $20 wifi credit all on one card.

Then they wouldn't have to deal with customers asking to upgrade a Student Chrome card to a regular Miles card with an NHL design.
Wallet: Prestige CSP SchwabPlat Freedom It Hyatt SallieMae AAPlat
SD: Arrival BrooksBros BCE ED IHG
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

I agree that Discover is a bit confusing. When I got my Chrome card I thought it was the student card. And was really confused as to why I didn't have access to the 5% cashback. Called them and they quickly fixed for me, however when they sent me the confirmation of the change in the mail they also put in there a paper explaining the Discover Chrome benefits. Which made me a bit more confused. :)
