Finally got Approved for a Discover it Card

Postby mingster0965 » Sat Apr 25, 2015 1:15 am

I went on their website and tried the pre-approval form. I fill out the info and hit submit I close my eyes. when I open it back up after a mins it came up saying Congrats you are approved! :) Wow I just received an email from them saying the card is on its way. CL is okay. 2.5k don't know the interest rate I got yet. the score was like 743 or so when I applied. glad I got it.

Congrats. I got mine back in March, and it didn't take long to receive the card. The reason I applied for the card was for the B/T 18 months, so besides a couple meals and vehicle taxes, I haven't had the chance to use it. They gave me the same line, 2.5k.

It's a beautiful lookin card though. When I get this B/T paid for I'll use it a bit more on the regular.

Congrats! That approval delay is always a nail-biter. $2500 isn't a lot, but it should be more than enough to work with for now. Treat it well and you should be able to squeeze a few CLIs out of them.

Congratulations on approval. You should receive your FICO score pulled by lender when the card arrives.

2.5k is actually pretty good for Discover. I got 2k at that time, and it took quite a few months for them to grant me a CLI.

Congratulations! If that 743 was a FICO, you probably wouldn't have much trouble getting approved for whatever card you wanted. For what it's worth, I've had great experience with CLIs. Anecdotally, if you give them a lot of swipes, Discover will likely be good to you in return.

Be sure to check out Discover Deals, too.

Is $2,500 CL seems the norm for discover? I also would assume it takes about 6 months for them to raise your CL?

$2,500 is incredibly common it seems. A friend of mine got the same and the got a $500 auto-CLI after 1 month.

Waiting to see what happens at his 6 month mark as he uses it as his daily driver.

It is unpredictable. Some people they love and give a high limit to right off the bat and others who you would think should easily get 5 figures get 2500 (or less).

Anyway that is pretty normal. You can go for a CLI after 3 months now.

As with any creditor limits and CLI's are based on credit and income. I started at 5K and had it doubled at about 3 months. Received 2-3 small auto CLI's since then.

Discover's criteria do seem to be odd but they don't just hand out $2.5K as a starting limit to everyone. For me they don't seem to have been all that odd. US Bank and Barclay started me off with the same initial limits. US Bank also doubled though maybe over a slightly longer timeframe. My card from Barclay is still very new.
