Discover “Freeze It” Feature

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Tue Apr 21, 2015 9:44 am

Has anyone used the Freeze It feature? I like the sound of it.

I once thought I permanently lost my Sallie Mae, when in fact it had just slid out of my pants pocket and under the car seat. I called immediately and got the account number changed quickly and efficiently (although the new card itself didn’t arrive for maybe 10 days).

Having an option like Discover offers would have been nice, since I found the original card later that day.
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE
Taxes/Misc: SPG

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

I have not but noticed the feature a few days ago. I think its clever on Discover's part to implement this.

I've used it, but I didn't under the term freeze; I actually deactivate and than reactivate; done it a few times, no problem, and works right away actually..

My capital one 360 has the same feature too.

I love it; esp since I got a few colours of the it xD

I heard this on the radio last night. Can you freeze a specific card, say an AU's card, or is it the whole account?
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k

Nice feature for a sock drawer card. I wish everyone would follow.

I've also used it before it was named "Freeze It." It has been an available feature - even on the mobile app - at least since I got my card in February of 2014. As far as I can tell it works exactly the same way - they're just marketing it and calling it "Freeze It" now. My wife lost her card, but we knew it was somewhere in the house. It was just a matter of finding it, so I suspended the activity on her individual card until we got it again (just to be safe). It is incredibly convenient.

Is it one of those additional options (not additional money per se) you have to sign up for? Or is it automatically implamented to your current account?

No need to sign up and no additional cost. You just go to manage cards online or in the app. It is super easy.

This is one of the things I really like about Discover: Their website and mobile applications are feature rich. Not cluttered with nonsense, but nicely laid out and you can pretty much do everything with either.

Then I look at Amex's website and app and it seems so basic by comparison.
