6 months and 2 CLIs

Postby ScoreOnTheRise » Tue Mar 10, 2015 5:04 pm

I love me some Discover!

On the heels of a year-long credit repair process this past August (going from the mid-500s to the upper-600s) I applied for and received a Discover it card with a $10K limit (by far the highest CC limit I've ever had).

On my third statement in December they gave me an auto CLI of $2K. I just got my sixth statement this March and was hoping for another auto CLI, but was a little disappointed when I didn't see one. Today I called DIscover and asked for a CLI and they gave me a $2.5K CLI with a soft CR pull.

I'm pretty excited now that I have a CC with a $14.5K limit. This CL generosity (which is really helping my credit score) combined with their exceptional customer service, is instilling some serious customer loyalty from me. I can't say enough good things about Discover. Count me an evangelist.

Good for you, and I do love Discover. But I haven't been able to get a single CLI with them in about 7 months of having the card.

That's great to hear. They haven't been as generous with me but I have gotten two increases on my card in the 11 months I've had it, one increase I got from their EO and the other was a HP one by phone after a manual review by a rep. I hope after this April I can start getting some phone SP CLI offers from them.

It's been a year since I originally posted this thread and I must say, I'm so grateful for all of the very helpful things I've learned on this board.

In the past year that $10K Discover card has grown to $18.5K. I've added a Chase Sapphire Preferred at $25K and a Amex BCE at $10K. I also closed on a mortgage and got a new car loan this summer. I'm amazed that in just two years I've come to this from being a guy with a mid 500 score with a Khols card at $600, a CapOne Platinum MC at $800 and a CreditOne Visa at $500. All of those cards are closed now that I have grown-up cards. :D

Congratulations on all of your progress! It is easy to dig yourself in a credit hole and very difficult to get back out, but when you do have good credit you can get just about anything you want.

I just went for a soft pull CLI on discovers site and only received a 500 increase....meh. I don't really need it but I was hoping for a little more.

Should I have skipped the online request and called maybe?

It's pretty much all automated either way. You can ask about once per billing cycle with no problem. Just make sure their still SP's.
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k

Doesn't matter as the method doesn't change your credit and income. If you got $500 that's what you qualified for. If you were expecting more you might need to readjust your expectations. What improvements to your credit do you think justified a bigger CLI? Or were you just expecting a bigger one based solely on time and/or usage?
