Denied credit card bonus

Postby joestc » Tue Jan 13, 2015 8:36 am

Spend $750 in first 3 months and $150 back: I saw this advertisement on Internet. And I applied for a Discover it credit card. But I found that I did not receive this promotion. Then I called the customer service and asked why. They said that my credit line was only $500!!!

So this promotion was not applicable to me!

How can I argue? Anyone else happened to be in such situation?

It should still be possible to spend $750 if you pay your card off. Did you actually put $750 in purchases on the card within 3 months? If so, then I would try to call back and talk to another agent. Remember to be polite when you talk to them. If you start out being rude then chances are that they will not help you. I would also look at the terms of the deal to see if it says anything about requiring a certain limit.
Discover IT - $5,700
Chase Freedom - $5,700
Costco Citi - $13,000
Sallie Mae - $4,000
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $6,000
Chase Sapphire Reserve - $19,500
Citi Double Cash - $6,500
Amex BCE - $13,000

FICOs: Discover (777), SallieMae (764), Amex (767), Citi (772)
FAKOs: CK- TU (760), EQ (760)

I concur.

Better yet, just sock drawer the card altogether if they're gonna play games with you and find better options if possible.

I had my discover sock drawer until I learned they give you a credit on your statement if your balance is $1.99 or less at the end of statement. I been charging it $1.99 each statement on Amazon gift card if I don't use it to show activity. If I do use it, I pay it down to $1.99 and they just zero my balance out end of statement. I'll take a free credit any day :)

Whoa really? I never knew that.

I'm gonna have to try that sometime. Discover really fascinates me despite the love hate relationship I currently have with them.

I have been doing this for a few months. Just pay down to $1.99 or less and get free credits. I am concerned if they begin to take adverse actions or other measures if too many people find this out.
Citi Forward Visa $5000 10/2012 | American Express Blue Cash Everyday $8000 2/2014 | Discover it $7000 5/2014
Chase Freedom Visa Signature $7000 6/2014 | Citi ThankYou Premier Visa Signature $5000 1/2015
All EMV.

I don't understand this. So if I leave a balance of $1.99 on my account then they'd do what?

I don't understand the "free credits" bit, either.

Read post 5 in this thread again -- specifically the second to last sentence.

Thanks for that. I missed it.

It makes no sense to me why they'd do that.
