Well. I called this afternoon, and got a EMV Chip Card. I also logged on to discover.com.. and this was in my pending cards, and select a card design tab ;)

BTW. England is exactly where I plan to go, so it's very comforting to know it's growing over there :)

I also wanted to thank you guys, for your answers.

It is for the Discover It Chrome.

Also about international use. I heard that the card was accepted in more places than once thought. You just have to try swiping (or, I guess, now inserting) the card and see if it goes through, rather than asking the merchant.

I'd trade you my silver for your Blue :P

Apparently, me being the complete & utter moron that I am, when I clicked on "Student" to apply for my discover card, I wasn't paying attention to the fact they were signing me up for there chrome card.

I just feel like an idiot for signing up without noticing that. Plus, I NEVER, eat out.. so, I only will ever get cruddy cash back on Gas (don't even own a car yet. so... :P). Yeah.

I suck. :beat: :beat:

I would say call them and tell them your situation and ask to PC to the IT since the chrome does not do anything for you. The default card they try to sign you up on for students is the chrome. You have to go to the IT page and then click on the student version.

Yeah, definitely call them and switch if the standard it is more useful to you. It is incredibly easy - I have toggled back and forth a couple of times. You keep the same account number and even the same physical card (if you want to).

I don't know if there is a minimum you have to wait before switching or not, but it is certainly worth a call to find out.

Guess who gets to keep his Chrome Card, with 5% Cash Back ;)

Speaking of Discover. I'm amazed at how just, wonderful the customer service is. I thought I'd get told I'd have to apply for a regular "IT" card, or get a new card in the mail. But no... she converted my account over the phone, and I'll have it starting next month :)

Looks like while I was posting my post, yours came through. I had no idea it was so easy, or I would have done it from the start ;)

Thank You though. You've been so helpful to me.

There is some truth to this. All the major acquirers in the UK now automatically bundle in Diners Club with Visa and MasterCard (And two of them Amex as well) when selling terminals to merchants, so most small now take Diners Club/Discover (Although just dip or swipe the card, most places won't know if they take it or not). Its larger businesses that are the problem. Only two of the major supermarkets take it (Tesco and Sainsburys). Even Asda (Owned by Walmart) only take it for petrol (and even then not at the pump).

One warning though is that most UK terminals won't support Discover chip yet as even locally issued Diners Club cards don't have chips on them. Only one of the terminal providers is setup for Discover chip yet. You'll have to insert the card first and it'll probably tell you to remove the card and swipe it.
Amex UK Platinum Charge Card
Amex Blue Cash USA
Amex US Gold Corporate Card
