I'll defend them, just because they have been good to me. I'll take good rewards and subpar CL over the opposite any day. Although, if they refuse to go over that measly $500 toy limit when you've established better options then I can't blame you at all!

Point taken. I just needed to let that out out of my chest. I get frustrated over this stuff too much. Discover's customer service is still some of the best I've had quite frankly, and right on par with what Chase and Amex offer too, and as you can probably can tell, they have been my absolute favorite lenders out of all the ones that I've done business with. Thinking about it that way, I also take back the comparison I made between them and Wells Fargo.

You're completely right about the rewards. They are pretty great and since I don't really want a Chase Freedom right now or any other card with rotating categories, I might as well just stick with that card for now. I guess what I was trying to say is that I wish their standards were a lot more consistent.

I now have mixed feelings about the Freedom these days. The benefits have been watered down but people have kept saying that UR points can be worth more than Discover's card. Not sure if that's true or not. For the longest time, that was my dream card.

They can be worth more, but it depends. Like MR points, the value you can get for different redemption options varies quite a bit. My understanding is you have to be willing to hunt for a deal AND be more flexible (e.g., take a flight not in high demand at a crappy time) in redemption. I'm just dipping my toes in the MR system now, so I'll see how valuable I can make it for myself.
