Diners Club is Back

Postby hockeyplayr » Tue Sep 30, 2014 12:49 pm

Diners club is back with two consumer credit cards, issued under the mastercard network. Looks like they are trying to compete with Amex charge cards. I just pulled the trigger on the premier and was approved for 20k with a 748 TU fico (what everyone is saying they pull) and a 36k income listed.

Pretty hefty. Not quite sure how it stands up next to the platinum but premier seems to be a little better than the green. Rumor is it is a hidden trade line as well. Won't find out until the thing arrives though.

I too have bought the fico "flavor of the week" and have been approved (although I don't know the limit yet) after being turned by Nasa Credit Union. Done with credit unions now... they'll approve people with a bankruptcy or baddies, but not me.

I've heard conflicting reports of whether they report or not... my guess is personal cards do report.
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]
Sometimes in my Wallet:
  • GM BuyPower WEMC $5000[9-14]
  • Wells Fargo Propel 365 Amex $7000[4-14]
  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]
In my sockdrawer: Amex BCE $1000[10-13, bd 91], OCCU Duck $10000 [11-13], The Sportsman's Guide Visa $8000[8-14], Chase Slate $4000 [9-14]Delta Gold Amex $2000 [2-15 bd 91], Diners Club MC $20000 [10-14] Commerce Bank Visa $2000 [3-15] Citi Double Cash $1000 [3-15]
Total CL: $90450

Yeah I try not to bandwagon (I'm sure people that frequent both forums remember occu) but diners club is a card Ive wanted ever since I received my first cap1 card and started my credit journey. They were just never available and the getting in seems pretty good right now so I bit. If you call up the number they will tell you your limit. Just press 0 # when they ask for your card number.

I'm really surprised that NASA would turn you down. Do you know the reason specifically? They were giving 30k limits like candy as if there was no tomorrow.

Ok, I used to have a Diners club 15+years ago.

It was hardly recognized then and I don't think it's that recognized now either.

Just my opinion... but.... partnering with Mastercard may help them get more recognition and acceptance.

Reasons given:
  • Insufficient number satisfactory tradelines- 22 credit lines on my report- all with "paid as agreed" and zero lates. Actually no baddies of any kind.
  • Limited Credit experience- yeah nothing says inexperienced like two 23 yr old Amex's.
  • Number of inquiries- Okay this one I understand and this was a concern when I applied.

Even so, there were people with bankruptcies on their report who got 30k. I hope all those fico people with bankruptcies who got approved all max out their cards and disappear. May NASA CU go down in flames for all I care... roger, throttle up!
