Is Discover being extra nice this month?

Postby 432521 » Mon Sep 22, 2014 10:08 pm

So I requested a CLI from discover over chat last month and got a soft pull increase of 4500. Was looking over my account today and got another increase of 3000.
March 2011- Wellsfargo Cash Back College Card
May 2012- Chase Freedom
May 2012- Discover IT
August 2012- American Express Blue Cash Everyday

So the $3,000 was an auto-CLI? Wow, that is awesome, especially with another big one just a month ago. Congrats!

Do you basically put everything through Discover?

Yes the 3000 was an auto-cli. I don't put everything through Discover anymore. A couple of months back I was using my IT card exclusively, but I started to just only put one small charge on it to get my score because I was pissed that the magic button never worked for me and I always had to ask for CLIs. I tried once again last month and the person finally was able to do it without a hard pull and that was when I put a couple of more charges a month on it, but still pretty minimal. The only thing I do different now is allow a balance to report, but then I pay my bill the same day I get it. That seems to be helping my credit score as well because I am now over 800.

Well it sounds like they wanted you back pretty bad. I was curious because based on this forum it would seem like Discover favors customers that use them heavily. Of course that is anecdotal, but it is all we have to go on. The only takeaway is our efforts to crack their system (and out assumption that there is one) are futile.

I'm still trying to figure out Discover myself and still trying to be patient. Maybe they'll surprise me within the next month somehow.

They have to tell you if it is a hard pull when you are requesting. I also always make a note to tell the rep that if the process happens and she is asked to do it as a hard pull then to stop. She went through it and assured me that it was a soft pull because the system did not ask her to initiate a hard pull. I have been monitoring my report and nothing shows up and my score has not dropped. I also save all conversations so if it does show up as a hard pull I can refute it. The increase I got yesterday I know is a soft because that was not I initiated by me at all.

Tried online chat but no go. Will wait for a letter being sent to me. Since I never can access the request CLI link, I just gave it an attempt through online chat.

They probably require some age on the account, but at least when I get the letter I will see some clues.
Citi Forward Visa $5000 10/2012 | American Express Blue Cash Everyday $8000 2/2014 | Discover it $7000 5/2014
Chase Freedom Visa Signature $7000 6/2014 | Citi ThankYou Premier Visa Signature $5000 1/2015
