An invite every week ...

Postby Troublemaker » Tue Sep 09, 2014 10:12 pm

For the past 3 months, discover has been sending me an invite EVERY WEEK to apply for one of their cards. Does anyone else get so much junk mail from them? What's the best way to stop them?

Before moving my home, I got a lot of prescreened Capital One offers. I never received Discover offers, though my friend had. Below is what the friend received.

If you fell like those offers annoyed you and would like to stop receiving offers from them AND OTHER CREDITORS, go to OptOutPrescreen or call 1-888-5-OPTOUT.
Citi Forward Visa $5000 10/2012 | American Express Blue Cash Everyday $8000 2/2014 | Discover it $7000 5/2014
Chase Freedom Visa Signature $7000 6/2014 | Citi ThankYou Premier Visa Signature $5000 1/2015
All EMV.

Thanks! I will try the opt-out. My situation is similar to your friend with Discover invites. What a waste of paper ...

Actually I would like to do a "selective opt-out" (i.e. only opt-out Capital One while still allowing Chase, Citi and others to send offers) but unfortunately there is no such option.
After optoutprescreen you will no longer be able to check pre-approved offers online as well.

I only get that much attention from BarclayCard.

I applied. They denied me.

But they still pepper me with offers.

LOL.

Chase was the worst for me, but I also got bombarded with offers before I recently moved.

I prefer sending the blank application back to them when they send the pre-paid envelopes to make them pay more for postage and their mail room employees, but I may be too spiteful.

You can either opt out or just recycle them.

As always, it's really just marketing and isn't all that different from the other junk mail you receive. They're just trying to sell a product like all the other businesses out there.

From Discover, I always get the balance transfer check a couple of times a month.
I don't know why they want the balance transfer so bad or why was I selected in the balance transfer pool.

Gold Delta AMEX | Citi DoubleCash | Citi Simplicity
Chase Freedom | Kohls Charge Card

I do wish that was an option. I'm in the same boat - CO gets tossed while most others would be opened to see if there was a special offer. Getting a special signup bonus through the mail can certainly be worth it.

Maybe I will opt out for a few months. I don't expect to apply for anything for the rest of 2014. I know Barclays likes to wait 6 months between each new account, so the Arrival won't be an option until about Feb 2015. And TrueEarnings, as far as I know, doesn't really come with signup bonuses.

Edit: And a few minutes later, done!
Love: IHG, Platinum, Sallie Mae, AA Plat, CSP
Like: Discover, ED, BCE, Hyatt, Arrival, Freedom
Might drop: BrooksBros, Prestige (Costco PC?)
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

My father gets an invite from Discover and Capital One at least once a week. He doesn't use credit cards so I have no idea why he doesn't just opt-out.
My Cards:

Discover It - $8,450 (9/13)
BankAmericard Cash Rewards Visa Signature - $5,000 (4/14)
Chase Freedom - $3,000 (5/14)
AMEX Hilton HHonors - $16,500 (6/14)
