Postby amexcurious » Mon Sep 01, 2014 11:31 am

Does anyone know if Newegg purchases qualify for the online shopping 5% cash back bonus category that started today?

I don't know about Newegg, but you've got your calendar mixed up. Q4 starts in October - today is just the first day you can sign up for the bonus conveniently in advance.
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG, Prestige (retention)
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt
SD with activity alerts, might close: Arrival

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech, BofA Travel PH, Aviator Red

I don't see why not. You're buying items. I think they put "Shopping" in the category to distinguish it from ALL online transactions (which they have done in the past).

From Discover:
"Online shopping is defined as: the purchase of goods at online merchants, and excludes: purchases made online for Government products, education providers, utilities or travel; and amounts not charged to your card during your online transaction. In addition, purchases made at warehouse clubs or discount stores and purchases made using virtual wallets or third party payment providers will not receive 5% Cashback Bonus."

So yeah, Newegg will work :)
AMEX BCE ($20,000), Citi Forward ($6,800), Discover IT ($5,250), BoA Travel Rewards ($1,800)

It looks better this year. They added the department stores. This was already the easiest qtr for me to max out now it may be done in the first month...

Newegg worked for me in this category last year.

I love that you can go through ShopDiscover and double the cashback for some retailers! Best quarter for maximizing imo.

I don't know what newegg's shipping policies are, but they are part of shoprunner, so using an Amex on small orders might make more sense if newegg doesn't give free shipping.

With the Amex + Shoprunner deal, you don't have to use Amex to use Shoprunner.

Example:
You can order Pizza from Domino's (yes it's Domino's, deal with it)
You login to Shoprunner and get the "Discount" (We'll remove the BS $2.50 'delivery fee' (this is not a tip))
You can then use any payment method you with, even Cash (if you like that sort of thing)

That said:
I find Shoprunner to be hit or miss, mostly miss, as to what products you can 2 day ship.
NewEgg is worse then most because they have NewEgg Premier
So, Shoprunner for free from Amex, great, but No. Would not buy.

American Express PRG - NPSL ('10) - NONE - Replace with BCE in 2015
US Airways barclaycard - $20,000 ('14) - Catch All - PC to Arrival in 2016
BankAmericard | Cash Rewards - $8,200 ('99) - Gas, Groceries
Discover It - $8,700 ('14) - 5% categories, ShopDiscover

Good to know that Amex isn't required as the payment method!

I had looked at the Shoprunner terms and saw nothing saying I absolutely had to use the linked Amex card, but I was worried I might have overlooked something.

I care more about the fact it is free, rather than how reliably fast it is.
