Successful 55% CLI

Postby Vattené » Tue Jul 15, 2014 7:27 pm

After reading about others requesting CLIs I couldn't resist trying for myself. I called up Discover (got another great CSR) and - to my surprise - I was approved! My limit was $4,200 and I asked for $6,500 just within their internal analysis to be sure I didn't take a hard pull. I thought it might be a bit much to ask for, but figured they could always give me less if I got approved at all.

My condolences to MemberSince99 (not trying to rub it in or anything), but if you read this I am starting to buy into your theory about Discover. They are my first major card (and my others had nowhere near the limit I had with Discover), though I never carry a balance. I understand your not wanting to give them your business, but so far they are earning my loyalty early on.

Wow congratulations they love you! See that's the thing, we just never know which lenders will really like us vs not caring if we are customers. So best to give as many as possible a shot. And they obviously really like you and want your business that's a great thing. They are a wonderful lender to be in with.

I really have nothing against them at all, they have a lot going for them, they just were in my view rather stingy with me compared to most other lenders and I just felt like I'd like to cultivate the lenders who showed they want me as a customer. Amex has done that as has Associated and to a lesser extent, Chase as well (though I'm sure I'll never get an auto CLI from Chase. Then again at this point I'll never get one from Associated with my limit there either, but I don't care about that limit going up).

Anyway, many congratulations to you they are a fine lender, even if they were rather tight with me and some others.

Oh, I am totally with you. As consumers the only power we have over companies is whether we give them our business, and with a market as flooded as the credit card industry you might as well sit back and let them cater to you.
