One could argue that someone with $50,000 in CL could be always late and irresponsible and someone with $15,000 CL could be always under 10% UT, PIF and bakes awesome cookies. If someone makes $25,000 a year, I don't think they should have $50,000 in credit available. That's foolish to extend 2 years salary of credit to anyone, IMO.

This is why available credit is only a portion of the equation. All things being equal though, the person with more available credit is being trusted with more regardless of their income.

I have >$155k available across 11 cards plus whatever my Amex Plat grants me. My (reported) utilization is regularly between 15% and 20%. It's all about responsibility, it doesn't matter if it's six months or six years worth of salary as long as I play the game correctly.

Of course, YMMV.
