Default how to deal with fraudulant hard pulls on your credit record?

last summer someone tried applying for a bunch of credit cards using my social security. they were not successful in opening any because they were using a different address than my credit file, but regardless it still did hard pulls on my credit report. how does one go about getting these taken off? will they still be counted after a year? i have great credit so i just want to make sure it stays that way.

ya know i don't think there's anyway to reverse that. i had the same thing and everyone i consulted with including my financial institutions never mentioned that. it's unfortunately bec that does indeed drop your fico score a good amount so i think you should be able to reverse those pulls. does anyone know how long the pulls stay on your credit reports? i think they only keep records for 12 months on that so after a year you should be back to normal.

transunion says hard pull inquiries stay on the record for two years that sux i had thought it was one year too. they said you can dispute it but when i've checked my free credit report i've never even seen info report about hard pull credit inquiries at all. will these be on your free reports or do you have to pay for them?

sorry guys i took so long to respond. crap 2 years? that's insane. those hard pulls can easily knock down fico's 10 or 20 pts and it sounds like the son of a beach tried to open up a bunch of cards.

What you should do is write to the credit reporting agency, disputing that these inquiries are fraudulent and need to be removed.

They may need you to file a police report, and fill out an id theft affidavit from the ftc. Federal Trade Commission - Home

Once they have that info, they should have no problem removing them inquiries.

Please let us know how you do.

File a complaint with the credit bureau that you want it off now. Include some documentation - police case number etc

If they don't take it off file a small claims suit against them. It will cost you around $20. They won't want to go to court so they will remove the fraudulent hard pulls asap.
