Default A Bold Scam Using Promo Credit Cards

Next time you are at a restaurant you may want to double check your credit card when you get it back. I read a story about a man that was called on Monday by his credit card company to ask about some suspicious charges made on his account over the weekend. He checked his wallet to make sure his card was still there and instead it was a Amex promo credit card with the "your name here" and sample account number on it - one of those promotional credit cards you get in the mail every week to encourage you to sign up an account.

It turns out that the Friday before he bought lunch and the waiter returned one of these fake promo credit cards to him. It's seems very bold of someone to attempt that. I know with me, as someone who uses my card for everything, I would notice it (at the latest) within hours the next time I tried to pay for a purchase. But besides that, those cards have a white backing and most people would recognize that immediately.

I don't see how this scam could work on anyone other than the blind or elderly. The Amex promo cards don't feel or look the same. You would really have to be out of it to not notice it if someone gave you one.

I think most people would realize it's fake just by touching it or seeing a glimpse of the back of the card which is usually white on promo cards.
