    Default Identity Theft/Card Protection

    It seems that every day people are getting their identity stolen by fraudulent accounts set up. I have worked in credit for many years and have seen witness to people's lives literally destroyed due to carelessness. What precautionary measures do you utilize to protect your credit?

    I have Lifelock, which so far has protected me. But I also subscribe to other services. Does anyone have any experiences due to identity theft, and now that it has happened, what are you doing to prevent it again? People who have been easy targets once, many times get hit again years later.

    If somebody ever tried to open a card in my name, they would need to know where I live, my mother's maiden name and social security card number.

    If they don't have this information I guess they can't open a card in my name.

    If they stole my wallet with my cards they would have to go to the same mall and same stores i normally shop at. Take a guess I have all my statements saved so I have a pattern and I would call my company up and explain and I wouldn't have to pay.

    I bet I could dig all of that up in about half an hour if I were so inclined! I'd need your name first but that is written right there on your card, or in the phone book, or your high school yearbook, or ...

    I won't pay for identity theft protection and frankly think it is oversold. I have my statements sent to a secure mailbox and I am generally careful with my cards but aside from that I've had no problems in over 30 years.

    I had some fraudulent charges once but they were quickly and easily dealt with by a single phone call.

    doinghomework even if you tried you wouldn't be able to get my info. no one can ever steal my identity. because in order to open up a credit card in your name or my name they would need my SS and mother's maiden name. you don't have it.
