Default Help! Multiple fraudulent Paypal charges on Discover card!

    Hi guys,

So I have a huge dilemma on my hands. I own a Discover card, which I usually spend about $400-500 per month on, usually gas and groceries.

Well, today for the first time in a while I decided to look actually look at my statements for the last 2 months, and notice there are about 20-30 Paypal transactions for various dollars amounts ranging from $1.80 to $250. All in all they total almost $1815.22!!!!

I have never used Paypal in my life and do not even have a Paypal account, so I am a victim of fraud; I don't know how but apparently someone stole my credit card number from somewhere. I immediately call Discover to dispute the charges. They said since it's multiple transactions, I can't "dispute" them one by one but rather they transferred me to their fraud/security department. The rep told me they are going to open an fraud investigation on my behalf. He sounded very understanding and reassuring, and emphasized Discover card members have 100% fraud protection.

But when he said I would be granted a credit to my account for the full amount of $1800 PENDING completion of their investigation, I have been in a state of panic ever since. I just need some feedback from someone else who has been a victim of fraud. What can I expect to happen, and how long do these things usually take?

    Thank you for any help!
    David

You are fine. If they determine it is fraud you will not have to pay anything. If they decide these are legitimate charges you made then that is the only way you would be on the hook. They will likely send you paperwork to fill out, possibly even a police report. Just fill it out and sign it and you'll not have to pay anything. DO NOT LIE on those documents because you could go to jail for that.

It's really not a big deal. It has happened to me a couple of times.
