assuming you live near a Nordstrom, I would go to the store and speak to a mgr, explain to that person that you can't afford the store except after Christmas sales, unless they all know you and they know you shop all the time. then just tell them this isn't your purchase.
same as best buy and Kohls. tell the mgr. that you shop at better stores and that you wouldn't have their cards to begin with. demand to see a copy of the receipt they will see the signature doesn't match.
20? Wow, you much have one heck of a good credit profile.
A freeze and a talk with the police and cc companies will straighten this. With such a large spending spree, this crook will be easy to identify. Obviously someone who went overboard and will pay the price. With over $20k in stolen merchandise, should be easy to identify. I just don't get how they could apply to so much successfully, you usually need a license and a good understanding of the person.
I would say it might be someone you know/get in contact with/facebook friends with. Also, they might have a copy of your ID or was able to reproduce one in your name (working in retail, we always ask for ID when it comes to applications).
Yep. 20 credit cards, I've cancelled them all reported them.
As of right now, I'm just doing my daily stuff and I don't seem to be getting any more credit card bills since everything is on hold.
And if you guys read closely, it can't be any of my friends or any location close by because the charges were in Georgia. I live in California, which is nearly across the United States. I've never even been to Georgia in my life.
WOWZER. 20 cards. Hope it all work out for you, i am sure this is chaotic
Mail fraud, an insider job at a bank or credit card company (the worst kind of nightmare possible, in my opinion), someone somehow collecting your SSN and/or Driver's License information, hacked security system which releases personally identifying information to the hackers, etc, are all possible situations which can result in identity theft.
I'm really sorry to hear about this, but you're doing all the things you should be doing.
Make sure you call your legitimate creditors and inform them of the problem and inform them that you have placed a fraud alert on all of your credit reports and are seeking help from the police.
I had my wallet stolen about a year ago (total pain in the ass) and where I eventually got my wallet back with 90% of everything returned, I have had to place fraud alerts on all of my credit reports along with filing police reports.
EDIT: I believe that as a victim of identity theft and if you filed a police report, you are eligible for free credit monitoring for the next year. Check up on that and if it's available, definitely hop onboard so you can track the damage done and make sure no other damage gets through.
