Default Someone charged my credit card!

What do I do? Someone charged my credit card and I want to know what my rights are and what the best course of action is. The person that charged my card I know who it is and the total is $238 in charges. She is refusing to give me the money and told me to "deal with it". What does "deal with it" mean? Does she want me to deal with it by reporting her to the credit card or the police? Are those my only choices if I want to get my money back?

This girl sounds to have some major attitude problems. I would confront her one last time and give her an ultimatum - pay up the money immediately or you will have no choice but to report her to both.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

Why even ask? I would have reported that immediately for her admitting to it.

If she told you to DEAL-WITH-IT, then why did you not immediately report this to the police?

The longer you wait, the more things go into her favour.

Let us know how it goes and good luck... Also, how did this exactly transpire BTW? Seems it may not have been out out-right theft but some sort of.... mis-understanding issue?

Today - call the credit card issuer and report the fraud. They will ask you if you know who did it. You answer "Yes." They will then ask you to file a police report.

You will be done. Your friend, roommate, or whoever it is will probably be prosecuted. Even though it is a small amount, the credit card company will try to prosecute if they actually know who it is. It will depend on if there is proof.

What exactly is her side of the story? Keep in mind you have to also call in a report to the police. They'll send someone over to check out the story and write down some details. Now when they take it up with her, SHE is going to tell HER SIDE OF THE STORY TOO... So be prepared.

Actually, keep your receipts and invoices handy, and make sure she can't interfere with those, etc. Maybe you should hide them, but be prepared to show them to the cops when they show up for their report.

BTW, I forgot to mention, since there is a good chance she knows your number, you had best call up your creditor and immediately cancel the card/re-assign new other wise she can very well cause you even more problems and charges.

Each bank has a fraud department for their cards, check your small print the contact details will be in there.

Again, good luck, keep us up to date on how your progress goes.

True. But if you call the main 800 number listed on the card and on your statement you will be able to get to the fraud department easily.

I was going to post my followup two days ago but I have been working double shifts.

I confronted her and gave her the ultimatum and she came back and told me that if I file any type of report, she will make up a story that I beat her and get me in trouble. She is a very believable and good at lying. She said she would hit her eye on the corner of a chair to get a black eye and say I did it to her. What do I do? Should I cover the bill to avoid this drama?
