The visa card that I've got through my bank has apparently decided to make up their own one-off anti-fraud security password that they require internet merchants to use, and the way they are strong-arming merchants to use it is to decline online purchases. They declined a newegg.com purchase of mine, and I see now that they link to a page on the card services website to have me provide yet another password.
I doubt if they will be strong-arming yahoo or google in this way, so I'm going to be declined repeatedly and annoyed to try to do purchases with this card.
I have heard of cc numbers that are one-time, but what I would like to find is a cc company that does "per merchant" cc numbers. This is the way it would work:
- I request a new number from the Cc website, and then give that number to the merchant. There is no card, and the charges roll up to my main visa card.
- But that number is only valid for that merchant.
- So if a charge ever shows up from someone else, then we know who gave the card out, and it will be declined.
Do we know of any CC companies that provide this service?
I don't want a one-time visa card service since that means two trips to websites to make a single purchase. I'd like to have merchants save these one-merchant card number to save me time to make my usually small purchases.
Thanks,
wp
