The Duck Card compromised?

Postby otter » Sun Jan 26, 2014 12:44 pm

Well, tried to use my Duck Card today at the grocery store and it was declined. This was actually the first time I've tried to use it in a little over a month. I called their 800 number and they said there was a potential security breech and my account had possibly been compromised. The only thing I can think of is that my phone number was changed and I forgot to give them my new number(I did today). I hope it wasn't my recent app spree which spooked them or the fact that I charged up the $1000 to get the bonus within 2 weeks and then pretty much have been using it sparingly since then.

Anybody ever have someone shut off your card because of this? I guess (or hope) they don't close my account. I haven't been paying in full, but I have been making well over the minimum payments the two statements I've received.
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]

I haven't had any issues with mine. I used it recently and it was just fine.

So are they sending you a new card?

No, the last time it was used was it was charged 1/21 and I paid it 1/22 and it was fine then. Haven't used it since.

They'll probably issue a new card but they probably won't close your account. "Security breach" could be due to any of a number of causes and it sounds like a more widespread issue than just your account.

It's doubtful that your old phone number led to a security breach. An app spree, your usage and your payment amounts have nothing to do with a security breach. Sensitive data was compromised somehow (hackers, etc). It happens. Remember the recent incident with Target?

That's weird. Where did you hear that? FICO?

When I saw all those high limit approvals, I wondered if maybe there wouldn't someday down the line be pull back. I just had this suspicion like that was a very real possibility for some reason.

I'd be annoyed if they did it to me, but life would go on anyway. I'm not looking to close anything I have, but if I had to pick one to go, that would likely be the one. So no biggie in my book.

I just logged in and checked the limit it's still the same. But it's possible they haven't gotten around to me yet. I will say if they massively CLD me, I'll just close it and move on. I've done nothing to deserve that, and I understand they have the right to do it anytime, but likewise, I also have the right to close and move on as well at any time it works both ways.

By the way otter, you need to garden ;)
