How long does a merchant have to respond to a dispute?

Postby BJT1234 » Sat Apr 13, 2013 2:31 pm

If a merchant in a credit card dispute does not respond to the case within 3 months and the case is closed awarding the buyer by removing the charge. By law can the credit card company place the charge back on the account? Even after the credit card company told the buyer the case was decided in the buyers favor?

Is the a specific place I can review the federal law about this type situation?

That sounds kind of shady to be honest. I don't know the law regarding that as I've never had a creditor pull that on me. You'll have to dig or consult an attorney is all I can tell you. It doesn't seem right to me that they could come back many months later and do that, but there might not be any regulations regarding this. If it's a large amount of money and you can't find an answer, you'll probably want a lawyer.
