Check Card Stolen. Questions for the Group.

Postby websteth » Fri Oct 26, 2012 9:21 pm

So I'm not a happy camper this Friday. After what has been a very long week at work, I came out of the gym today and got a text message saying a charge had been made to my checking account from my Debit card. I'm like that's odd since I never use the thing. I call the bank and realize that my card was taken out of my wallet while I was at the gym and used with in 20 minutes of me starting at the gym at Target for around $700. Along with the Debit card, they also took my Chase Hyatt card but no charge was made on that.

So here is my questions. First person I talked to at Regions bank said that once the charge posted I could go to the branch and dispute it and go from there. I called back later since I had another question and the second rep deleted the pending charge and said that should cancel the charge since my card had been cancelled incase they try to hit it again. Any thoughts one if deleting the pending charge will actually cancel the charge and leave the money in my checking account?

On a side note, do they still make plain ATM only cards these days?

They do still make plain ATM cards, but you usually need to ask for them.

Since I never use the Visa Check Card, it might be worth the phone call.

I just had something similar happen. My bank has ATM only cards, but they want to charge $10/year for them. I told them that's absurd especially when I have the top level checking account with a ton of money in it. The branch manager promptly refunded the charge, and I got my card in the mail 2 days later.

I was also told they had to post before they could be disputed. I've never heard of anyone being able to delete a pending charge, so I would definitely keep up on it and see if it posts anyway. If so, call and dispute immediately. Or visit them.

Active Cards:
Chase Freedom 10+10 Visa Signature ($9k Limit - 8/2012)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($10k Limit - 2/2013)
Chase Ink Plus ($7k Limit - 2/2013)
Discover IT ($9.5k Limit - 10/2012)
AMEX Zync (No Pre-set Limit - 1/2010)
AMEX Blue Cash Everyday ($20k Limit - 1/2013 - Backdate to 1/2010)

I've got the form filled out and ready to FAX if it hits. so we will see what happens. I'm just more annoyed that someone took it from my wallet. Cash was left and so was everything else except those two cards. Stupid idiot people.
