Hi Stumpy,

I have had my identity stolen so I fell your pain. I did a lot of research on different identity theft companies because I spent countless hours (took about 5 months) having to deal with fixing the issues that were caused by the criminal (and I never want to deal with that ever again). I went to a couple of review sites and after a couple of weeks of research I had narrowed it down to LifeLock and Identity Guard. I actually went with Identity Guard for my final decision. They are very similar with the service, so it was a tough decision. I think what the tipping point was that I travel a lot. Identity Guard will send up to $2,000 of emergency cash through Western Union no matter where you are if you have your wallet stolen or gets lost. I found that pretty awesome.

I have been with them for about 6 months now and I have no complaints. I had recently bought a car, and I was immediately notified by Identity Guard alerting me that someone was running my credit to purchase a car. I was glad that they were on top of my identity. I just say do your homework and see which company offers you the best perks that fits your budget and lifestyle.

For free with each credit reporting agency, you can put a fraud alert on your report and lock your credit report if I am not mistaken.

Once you have the accounts you need, lock your accounts for $15. No one can do a hard pull on your account without a code you have to give them. It runs $15 to unlock, but that is the cheapest and safest way to protect yourself IMO unless you are having your credit pulled multiple times per year.
Chase Sapphire Reserve Visa Infiniti $60,000
Bank of America Cash Rewards Visa Signature $47,500
American Express Blue Cash preferred. $35,500
Capital one Quick Silver Visa Signature $25,000
CITI Costco card for gas and CITI Double cash for the rest, in wife's name.
Experian 838 Transunion 836 Equifax?
