Kohls card lost and used, but company giving me a hard time

Postby minasmom123 » Mon Jul 06, 2015 3:00 pm

I received my bill from Kohls and noticed 2 charges on there that were not mine. I immediately called and informed them that the charges were not mine and the card must have been lost or stolen. A couple of weeks later I received copies of the "receipts that I requested". I called them again stating I did not request receipts, but had reported the charges as fraudulent and the cards lost/stolen. The rep told me to send in a letter with a copy of my drivers license to compare signatures which I did. Then I got a letter stating I needed to fill out an affidavit, which I did. If a card is reported lost/stolen doesn't the credit card company have an obligation under the law to credit these charges minus $50? Can the company deny this even though I have stated the charges are fraudulent?

At times like these I really wish I had the ability to hear the call between you and the rep, to see what happened.

I understand you're concerned with being on the hook for the charges but that is why they're requesting to get evidence and also affidavit stating they're not your purchases which should be easy peasy to do save the paperwork

Big companies sometimes don't require or do as much work because it's such a small amount they don't want to chase imho

But kohls isn't that big and I guess their policy is so that folks can't charge under fifty and automatically dispute it to end in their favor.

I would go ahead and do the paperwork; keep copies of everything and if so outraged, never use their card again by closing the sucker down

It's possible. All depends on the specifics of the situation and the outcome of the investigation. I'm not saying that yours is not but not all fraud claims are valid.
