Is authorized user account enough for score?

Postby junebug » Thu May 04, 2017 9:14 am

Hi everyone,

My sister has no credit to her name, wants to be added to a card of mine so she can start a credit history. If her only account is the one (mine) she's added on, is that enough for a score? Or does she have to open up her own account too?

Thanks! I realize this might be a very basic question but I couldn't find a direct answer anywhere.

I think it can vary by bank and lender and credit bureau.

It's certainly worth a try assuming your payments are all on time.
Amex - BCP, Platinum, Business Gold
BoA - BankAmericard Cash Rewards
Chase - Freedom, CSP, RC, Ink Plus
Citi - DC, Prestige
Discover - It

I've added my stepson as an AU on one of my accounts. Curious to see what impact that has when he turns 18 and starts earning credit.

Just added her, so we'll see in a bit if she gets a score. Right now Credit Karma says she has none. Will report back.
