H-E-B grocery stores, which has over 150 locations throughout Texas, recently discontinued their credit card partnership with Chase. Existing cardholders can still login to their accounts, but the rewards program has been cancelled and the application is no longer available.
For 2013 and beyond, here is your new game plan to maximize your savings at their store.
Step 1: Continue using the Point Club Rewards
The H-E-B Point Club Card is totally separate from their MasterCard. As I’m sure you are aware, that’s just their loyalty program that rewards you for your shopping.
The secret to getting even more out of your Club Card is to use it with the right rewards card, which brings us to the next step…
Step 2: Get the card that gives 3% or 6% cash back at supermarkets
Did you know there are two credit cards on the market that give you extra cash back at the grocery store?
- No Annual Fee Version: Get 3% cash back on the first $6,000 spent annually at US supermarkets.
- $75 Annual Fee Version: Get 6% cash back on the first $6,000 spent annually at US supermarkets.
Both of them also give 2% and 3%, respectively, at gas stations. That makes them a great replacement for the now discontinued 5 cent per gallon fuel discount, which was a benefit on the H-E-B credit card.
Step 3: Use your new credit card in conjunction with H-E-B Club
By using your credit card that give 2% or 3%, along with your H-E-B Club Card, you are going to score some serious rewards!
If H-E-B ever brings back their card, I’ll be sure to update this post. But as of summer 2013, the above plan is the best replacement for it.
