If you’re new to Uber and have a Chase card, there’s an easy way to get the first ride free.
For a limited time (until Dec. 31, 2016), if you sign up for Uber, link a Chase debit or credit card as a payment method, and enter the code ChaseUber, your first Uber ride will be free (up to $30).
There is some fine print to be aware of with this offer.
Each Uber account is eligible for this offer just once. It’s for new Uber users only. And it lasts only until Dec. 31, 2016.
Chase isn’t the first card issuer to partner with Uber for discounts and extra rewards. Capital One and American Express have been doing so for some time. The Starwood Preferred Guest program also partners with it.
If you’re disappointed that you can’t take part in Chase’s free-ride special because you’re not new to Uber, you can still get bonus points for transactions with Uber and other rideshare companies. These purchases fall within Chase’s “travel” bonus category, meaning you can get 3X points on your rides with the Chase Sapphire Reserve and 2X points with the Chase Sapphire Preferred.
