It would be great if you could, no doubt!

I applied for the preferred version last night. There were a couple of motivations for that. First of all with all the new cards hitting my report my AAoA is dropping, and I wanted to put the brakes on that, which a new card which backdates to March of 99 would certainly help to do. But also I could see being able to make use of it too, like djrez4 I did the math and it should pay.

So I agonized over doing the app, I figured if I wanna go for it, it's now or next year, because once I get within 2 months of pre-approval there will be no more cards period until I have closed. I filled out the info, very little to enter if you are already a member, and hit submit, no instant it got reviewed then was approved this afternoon. I have no idea of the limit, but I'll find out soon enough. My guess is 2k. Good enough, though I'll sure never let a balance report on it if that's what it is. Once I get the mortgage I'm going back to letting 0 report across all cards anyway though. I really don't like even a 35 dollar balance hitting like what happened this month.

Honestly the inquiry doesn't bother me, the only thing that did is I know it will be years if ever before I get a CLI on it. But hey, at least I know that going in.

Interesting... some how from all the post i have read from you I have picked up some good things..

I applied thinking I could then maybe merge the CL from my BCE to the ED card. Denied. SERIOUSLY?! I have a $15,000 Hyatt Visa with Chase and they didn't even blink saying yes the other week giving me a $5,000 Marriott card. I have 2 personal and 1 business cards with AmEx. ALL with perfect payments; never even carried a balance. I'd start to give AmEx my swipes since I'd have full MR points that I can use with Delta from time to time (if the new cash & points seems to be fair starting next year). Not my favorite airline, but it's the most convenient for me to fly. AmEx says "no" and Chase says "yes". No wonder I rarely use my AmEx. AmEx can S my D.

I totally understand your frustration on that, I'd feel the same way.

I'm sure what they told you is they are different product lines so you can't PC or move credit lines between them like that. (Normally Amex will let you move a credit line).

Not sure why but they sure are making these kind of their own animal.
