Default Separate accounts?

We just got our first Amex card (not exactly, I've had them for work before). We made one application and got two cards with different numbers. When activating we had to do it separately for each card.

I am puzzled whether we have two separate accounts or just one. Will the points pile up in one account or will they be split?

We are definitely not new to credit cards but it does not work this way with any of teh other cards we have had.

You didn't mention who the cards are for - I'm assuming you and your significant other?

If that's the case, when you applied I'm guessing you did it under one person's name and the second name was added as an "additional account holder." Both cards will have different account numbers, but they will show up on the same bill and both fall under the primary account holder's credit. If you added this other person's social security number, then it should show up on his/her credit also, as long as it's not a business card.

Thanks. The cards were for my wife and I. They do ask for the SSN of the additional card holder. But we have great credit and are not worried about whose credit report it goes on. I was just curious how it works with the two different numbers and all. I'm slowly figuring it out on their web site.

I have to say, I really like their web site interface much better than Chase's and others I've used.

Amex has the best web interface but the one thing I hate is that little jingle they play when you login. Sometimes that causes my browser to freeze up.

I do have the same setup. Charges on both cards show up under the main account holders account. Same with the points. However you can still give your wife access to see her card activity and even spend both of your points (requires setup of a free account on the Amex Website). I love Amex and the way they work. They now even offer to manage your entire spending online and it is beautiful when you call their support. They even speak English ). I stopped using Quicken after they introduced it. I wish other banks would learn from that. I just think that even though we are in a crunch with all the credit offers Amex in my mind is still the top of the food chain.

Well, so far so good with the Amex. I did not expect problems but you are right - everything about them is a class act! I'm already starting to think the platinum might be worth it in a couple of years, lol. Chase is wondering why I stopped using my Visa.

Back when I got in the US and had no credit (yes my credit was 0, it really exists ) I got myself a WaMu Card. The interest was alright however I always paid it back in full. The limit was 1100 so it was on the low side. Over time they increased it. Once chase took it over they raised my APR to 24.24%. If I couldn't afford to pay them back in one month I would screw myself. 24% ??? No I am to cheap for that. Well no there are only 2 thing in my wallet. Amex & my Debit. Screw Chase. My Credit is to good for a 24.24% APR. Chase shouldn't wonder why I am no longer using them.

I always pay off the balance each month so I was not concerned with the rate. My issue was that I only earned United miles and, though I have gotten a lot of benefit from that through the years, I am now getting concerned about being able to use them. I don't have as much time to travel now and United is cutting back on evrything so they might become worthless. At least with Amex the points are tied to Amex. I'm confident they will be around.

You are lucky person. I wish I could think of Amex website the same way you do. But, for now, I think it's worst I have ever seen. I use BofA, Chase and CITI online banking websites on a daily basis, as well as Amex. And from what I see AMEX website is a total nightmare. A lot of unfixed bugs. Numerous outdated pages. Codes written over each other. Looks like those who developed Amex website were drunk when they worked on it.
For such a famous company like AmericanExpress it is unacceptable.
