I heard American Express changed the Centurion back to invite only. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I don't know but it should be invite only. They trashed out the brand by giving out too many of them.

I believe the following link answers the question for personal cards however I am not sure about corporate cards.
American Express Centurion Card

My parents are both centurion members they have asked centurion directly about this. What they have been told is that for now centurion is invitation only. The problem was that customers would spend the $250k call and request their centurion and then park it in their wallet and return to using it for much smaller amounts of money 60-100k for example. They want to make sure that centurion members show a constant usage of their amex card reaching or exceeding the 250k mark at which point they will be invited. There is a small hole in the system however, if you know someone with a centurion they can recomend you and if your account shows $250k usage within the past 12 months you will be "invited".

I think the "invite only" thing is BS, as realest pointed out. There are ways around it and I'm sure if you called up and had a good track record (and spending record) with Amex they would "invite" you to the Centurion, assuming you spend the 250k.
At the end of the day they shouldn't care if someone is or isn't spending on the card after they get it. They are still paying a $2,500 annual fee which ends up being even more profitable for American Express if the customer isn't bothering to use the services associated with the card.
