Default American Express Extended Warranty claim denied

Has anyone had any luck using the American Express Extended Warranty successfully? We were denied today on our first claim. Not sure if others have better luck using this benefit but we are disappointed. I think it came down to timing on ours.. Here's the brief story:

Bought a LED TV from Costco on Costco TrueEarnings American Express Nov 2010. Oddly enough, Nov 2012 the panel goes bad. Contacted Costco who said to contact American Express. Opened a claim, instructed to have a repair shop give us an estimate, had a repair shop come out, paid $73 for an estimate. They provided an estimate of over $1300 to replace panel. Submitted estimate to American Express last week and received a denied letter today. They will credit us the $73 we paid for the estimate but nothing more.

No details as to why it was denied. Our assumption is that it was too close to the expiration date (I believe it was within days). We are disappointed that this didn't work out. Not sure what to do now.

It may have been past the additional 1 year if it was within days. Surely they would've told you so, but I would've asked why it wasn't covered. $1300 to replace the panel? What brand/size is the tv and how much was it when you bought it? $1300 would go a long way toward a new tv, and that's a lot to put into a tv that quit after 2 years. It's just not worth it. If this happened to me, I'd just bite the bullet and buy a new one.

I agree with you on the time frame issue. We thought when we called and spoke to the rep, that if it were past or too close to the time expiration, they wouldn't have opened a claim in the first place. The $1300 is more then we paid for the TV, but we would have been happy with original purchase price, like the AmEx terms say. It's just a Samsung 46" LED, so nothing special. It's disappointing that when you try to use one of these benefits, it doesn't work out.

Please keep us posted on why this was denied. Amex does not have a limit for coverage on extended warranties, do they? For example, return protection is up to $1000/year, $300/item.

I will post if I am able to get some answers. I am going to call today, figured I will only be out the little time it takes to make the call. What I have found on the claim limits is this:

•Coverage is up to $10,000 per covered claim, not to exceed $50,000 per Cardmember account per policy year

Not sure if anyone cares, but I said I would update if I talked to AmEx and I did tonight. The person (still unsure of he or she? ) told me that our claim was denied due to "still being under Costco's warranty". I told them that we actually went to Costco first, and they told us it was out of warranty but if we purchased it with our AmEx to call them because it would still be under the Extended Warranty. So, he or she reviewed the paperwork for me and said there "appears to be some misdated information on our end. Call back Monday and talk to someone about looking the paperwork over again." From what I understand Costco's warranty is 90 days, Samsung is 1 year and AmEx Extends that to 2 years. If this is all true, we would no longer be under any warranty except AmEx...

So... depending on which rep I get Monday, I feel like maybe there is a glimmer of hope..

Either way, this is supposed to be a feature that reassures you when making purchases and instead it's a headache. Nobody wants a headache.
