Hard or Soft pull for card upgrade?

Postby Robrus1 » Wed Jan 23, 2013 12:47 pm

I was thinking about upgrading my Amex Blue to a BCP, and was wondering if AmEx would have to do a hard pull or just a soft. Anyone know? Also, if they do have to do a hard pull, can I ask them for a CLI in addition to the upgrade using the same hard pull?

If you upgrade, you don't get a signup bonus. Ask yourself, is the hard pull worth $150 to you? If so, apply for the BCP and cancel the Blue. If not, do the upgrade.

$150? What signup bonus are you referring to? I didn't see one when I was looking at the BCP, and if there was one, wouldn't it only be available to new cardmembers?

Never mind. I found all the info. Somehow the AmEx website remebers my ip address or something because even when I'm logged out it still gives me an option to upgrade instead of apply, and it doesn't say anything about the 150. It does when I used my phone though. I may have to think about it, but it seems like 150 bucks is worth a hard pull. That's a pretty good signup bonus, imo.

Use an incognito tab when you apply.

13 is a bit much in 2 years. I guarantee your score will go up if you let some of those knock off. A hard pull stays on your file for 24 months.
AMEX Blue Cash: $23,500
CITI Doublecash (World Elite MC): $9,600
CAPONE Quicksilver (VISA Signature): $12,500
CHASE Freedom (VISA Signature): $20,000
USAA Rewards (World MC): $13,500
USAA Rewards (VISA): $18,500

do you mean from blue to blue cash preferred or do you mean the basic blue cash to the blue cash preferred?
If you mean Blue I don't think you can upgrade because the Blue is a travel card, the blue cash preferred is a cash back card.
If you meant the basic blue cash to the blue cash preferred, all it is an upgrade , you keep the same account number No Hard pull.
