Earning Points

Postby amexguy321 » Mon Jan 21, 2013 12:19 am

ok so this subject isnt really breaking news, but seriously:

i am starting to be very upset with amex as their earning points page is still down. how long has it been? 8 months or so? i specifically applied for my third amex (2nd charge card) to give them all of my business. since the latest approval i have purchased a home entertainment system, several apple products, flights, vacations, and so on... long story short, i could have earned twice or more points had i gone through the earning points page. about a year ago i purchased several unlocked iphones for 5pts/$

has anyone heard anything when this program should be up and running again?
SERIOUS disappointment in regards to the anual fees i am spending on them per year!

It sounds like it's time to find a more rewarding card issuer.

Gonna have to agree with DavidNy. This is pure speculation, but I would venture a guess that it's another sign of Amex tightening their belt a bit more. With Cutbacks on Platinum rewards, cancellation of the Zync, putting a cap on the blue cash cards, creating 3 different prepaid cards with a short span, it seem the Amex is hitting a rough patch now. Amex MR points are not as strong as they have been in the past, and with a charge card, at best you're looking to Make a little profit or break even due to the annual fee on the charge cards. I would consider looking into the blue cash cards or spy instead.

Just spoke with a rep about the amex mall, and still no word of it coming back anytime soon. As for product changing from an Amex charge to revolver, I don't think it happens too often (if at all), but I've read some people claiming that they have managed to do so. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try talking to a supervisor, but I would consider apping for a new card to get the signup bonus, assuming a hard pull wouldn't be an issue for you.

no, i have applied and been approve for several cards within the last 18months. i really dont need a new card and another inquiry. as far as the sign up bonus goes, i am still waiting for the 25k pts for the prg. it has been 8 months now... the rep have told me that they do not see the offer in my account.... it was the ONLY reason i applied for the card... seriously amex
