    Default Manual Review Success!

I applied for a BCE a little over a month ago shortly after I got my first credit card and I was denied but I submitted it the same time as my Freedom app and it was approved so I was too excited to worry about a recon for the BCE so I didn't. I am 21 and in my last year of college and have a very limited profile as my oldest card just turned 2 months old. Well since then I knew I wanted the AmEx PRG and just didn't know when to apply....so I figured I would give it a shot now and then could try again next year if it didn't work out. I waited the 31 days and applied last Saturday and got a "needed further review" or something like that so my app status said pending on their site. Later that day I got an email saying the app was cancelled and I called the number and the CSR (Indian) told me it was cancelled due to my recent submission of the BCE application and that they usually would like to see 90 days in-between apps. Basically after talking with him we decided to send it in for manual review and that they would pull another report (they rejected me the first time for the PRG only based on my credit report from a month ago, I told them it had changed a little with more "desirable" cards on there since then and then he suggested the manual review). Well come to find out to my amazement, after 4 days of it going back to saying "in progress" for the app status I got the email today saying I have been approved and that they are expediting my card to me within 2-3 days which was unexpected as well! Needless to say I am very happy to get into the AmEx family in 2012 for future backdating, now I just want to keep a good relationship with AmEx to continue my success with them in the future while I can now finally enjoy gardening mode for a while! (I honestly don't know what these companies see in me....my applications look weak...I won't take it for granted though and will be good to them!)

Here is what I see today online:

Travel 3x, Groceries + Gas 2x: AmEx PRG (Closed)
Restaurants + Travel 2x: Chase Sapphire Preferred
Groceries 3%, Gas + Department Stores 2%: AmEx BCE
Dining + Entertainment 2x: Citi Thank You Preferred
Hotels 5x: Chase Marriott Rewards Premier
Rotating 5%: Discover It, Chase Freedom
    Restaurants 5x: Citi Forward
    Gas 5%: PenFed Platinum Rewards
    Future: US Bank Cash +

I swear you must have some good luck bro, I mean I can't think of someone has gotten some pretty good cards this quick. Most people wait 9-to a year to get some of these cards, and you are getting them with 3-4 months, congrats though! why were you denied for the BCE though?

What were the reasons for denial? Wow where do I begin, it was just about all of the possible ones. According to my denial letter the reasons were:

    1. Number of trades. (Experian)
    2. Insufficient time since most recent account established. (Experian)
    3. Too few credit card amounts on which, in our estimation, you have paid a mojority of the balance in recent months. (Experian)
    4. High utilization of credit lines or insufficient utilization information. (Experian)

Which didn't surprise me as I've seen stiff requirements for AmEx so I didn't bother with a recon.

These were the same reasons the CSR rolled off to me when he said my PRG app was cancelled and to try back in 90 days or whatever, before we decided to do a manual review and then I got approved.

Honestly I'm still occasionally going back to the app status page hoping it's not going to switch to denied

Yeah but I mean look at some of the cards you've got: Amex PRG, Chase Freedom, Discover More, Penfed Rewards. I mean you've got some nice cards, and I think AMEX wants you to grow with these cards before going with one their revolvers...at least that's what I would think. And how did you get approved with a PRG with like 4-5 months history, you are one lucky guy to get some greats with such a short history. I would hope to have your luck when I start applying for some more cards soon!

I'm not too sure...my accepted profile goes like this now:

8/2012: Denied from my own bank for no credit history
8/2012: Accepted by own bank w/ low limit after talking to them
    8/2012: Discover More
    9/2012: Chase Freedom
    9/2012: Citi Forward
    9/2012: Penfed PR
    10/2012: AmEx PRG

I understand I'm not the norm and I can't figure out why I would be so different. My scores have had to taken a hit from all my inquiries in the last 2.5 months so it's time to garden. Best of luck to you as well Snowman and I'll be following you like I have since the beginning to see if you get the More and Forward here in a few days....I hope it all works out!

Edit: Now that I think about it, I did get a student loan in my name but haven't paid on it yet. That was 3 years ago, so that had to help my age of accounts for credit but still doesn't count as a revolving credit card or anything or prove in writing that I can make payments. My first and oldest credit card is still only 2 months old.
