Thread: Amex Green- is it really that bad? Who loves it?

i am currently in the same position as you. i have the zync card and want to change that to green or gold sometime soon. since the anual fees are waived to the gold card and the premier rewards gold, i recommend you apply for the premier rewards and after 11 months you can downgrade to the regular gold or even green

Ivotedale I have the Green card I love it. the 1 thing I don't like about it considering we pay an annual fee, we don't get help making dinner reservations, when you think about this card what do you think of?

My answer is a card for both personal use and business use. Where as Blue Cash is more like a Discover More, the Green card is like a Discover Open Road, Escape or Miles. What I'm trying to say is people use it for both personal and business use and everybody likes to eat out. imagine having to go to Chicago on an important business trip, you just got off the plane and there's a very busy convention going on when you want to go out, it would be nice to have a little help making dinner reservations.

Same as around mother's day or new years eve when restaurants get very busy. it would be nice to get a little help making dinner resorvations since we are paying 95.00. I can undestand with the Blue Cash or Clear card not having it because their annual fee is 0.

Other than that I love it. on my December bill that I received in January they had a promotion from that day on through January 31st they took off the service fees for American express gift cards so I ordered 2. 1 i'm giving to my brother for his birthday. over the holidays I used my card for buying gift cards.

I believe the redemption is 3500 points for a 25 dollar gift card, you said you want to transfer points to frequent flyer miles just remember 1 thing you can't transfer to United or continental anymore.

When I was in Chicago about a year ago, at the Marriott marquee at the Starbucks I saw people in line using this card. 2 weeks ago I went to Coldwater Creek to buy my mom a gift card, the woman in front of me was using the same card. I asked how she likes it and she said she loves it, I showed her mine I asked her if she uses it for personal use or business use. she like me uses it for personal.

business people and probably some executives use this card as do people who work in lumber yards and warehouses.

it's better for credit than the platinum card, but the platinum is better for business use.

The gold is for people who stay a lot at Sheraton and Best Westerns, you get room upgrades, I think complimentary champagne, anything related to Sheraton or Westerns it's called Gold card destinations.

You have AAA, if you go to Broadway shows, rock concerts a lot, a real lot, and you stay at those hotels a real lot you might want to think about the gold card and what you can do is try it out for a year. You mentioned you have or had a zync so I don't think you can get the annual fee waived, but you can try the Gold card out for a year if you don't think the 30 dollars is worth it you can ask them to lower your level to green.

If you want my professional opinion, If you don't stay at Starwood properties, if you don't go to a lot of events, since you have a AAA card I would get the green card.

There must be something about this card since it's been around since 1958.

1 thing I can say for sure it's a lot better than the aqua Costco card and debit cards when purchasing the green card blows those 2 cards away

By the way that was the first credit card I ever applied for back in the late 80's I think around 1989. I remember walking around Garden State Plaza at Macy's in those days they had paper applications, I picked 1 up I filled it out didn't get the card then got it a year ago, ivotedale all i can say is I love the classic green card.

Not with the Green. That's why I upgraded to Gold.

you had the zync since 2011, they will put the member since date on your green.

I have the Green and love it as well. I got it mainly for the ability to transfer points to airline miles, though I won't rule out the possibility of redeeming points for a gift card.

For all those who have it or are interested in getting the Amex Green, I received an e-mail with a promotion that gives me 2x on gas and groceries until 6/30/2012. It's almost like having a Premier Rewards Gold card but without the extra fee =)

No Endoas haven't received that promotion yet. so you like me say you love the green card, do you use your card for personal use or business?

If you use the card for personal use, do you go to your malls , or do you shop online? if you go to your malls what stores do you like to use your card in?

if you use your card for business travel do you get your bill sent to your home or office?

as far as me I use my card for personal use. I feel online shopping has ruined the world.
I do live in New York state, but I love the local malls in New Jersey the family mall is called Paramus park, the bigger mall ( where I shop for grownups is called) Garden state plaza. now in bergen county the stores are closed on sundays except if they sell food.

so places like verizon, dykes lumber, bobs furniture, kohls plus the malls Paramus park, garden state plaza, the fashion mall , the bergen mall and Riverside square are closed on sundays except for sitdown restaurants and the movies.

so for the people who live in New city, Nyack , haverstraw New York have about 25 to 35 minute drive to Paramus park , 30 to 40 minute drive to garden state plaza, riverside is unafforadable for them. but for me I'm 17 minutes to Paramus park and about 20 to 25 minutes to garden state. the people who live in the New city area and nyack area could care less about the sales tax and shipping.

as for the people who live in Mahwah ,Ramsey and uppersaddle river if they order online they don't pay sales tax because there state doesn't collect, so if somebody from Mahwah orders online something from American eagle they don't have to pay sales tax.

if somebody who lives in New city orders an item from American eagle they pay tax because for anybody who shops at the palisades mall because there in New York they collect tax.

so if I ordered something from american eagle online I would have to pay sales tax.

so i don't shop online. I would rather walk around my gorgeous malls, I could make a night of it have dinner at ruby tuesdays, have a snack at Barnes and nobles look at some magazines.

Here is the link they sent me to register for the promotion. They also sent me an RSVP number so I used that but if the offer is for all Green card holders then you can use your ID and PW. Hopefully it works for you

My green card is for personal use.

Prior to the promotion, I would use my Amex Green for anything other than gas and groceries, since my only other credit card is a BofA cash rewards Visa that gives me 3% on gas and 2% on groceries.

Since the promotion is in effect until June 30th, 2012, I'll be using the Green pretty much everywhere that accepts Amex.

I also use the Green for online purchases and the Membership Rewards store. The MR stores I frequent are Best Buy, iTunes, and Newegg.

In the future I may try for the Citi Forward since they give you a bonus for Amazon and restaurants. Between that, the Amex Green, and the BofA I'll have all of the major categories covered (gas, groceries, Amazon, travel, restaurants) year round.

The $95 annual fee is steep, but American Express customer service more than makes up for that imo.
