I'm one of those who obtained the Amex Zync to get my foot in the door, in which I'm very happy with, though the only catch, like many others have noted here, is the inability to use standard Membership Rewards points; not being able to upgrade after a year's time (or ever at this point) is another point.
So after some time passes (I've had the Zync since September), I think I'm going to shoot for the Green...sure the basic Gold isn't too much more pricey in terms of the annual fee, but I'm not sure the extra $30 ($95 vs. $125) is worth it to me. Only thing I can think of that makes the basic Gold more effective is early access to gold card events, and slightly better roadside assistance (Basic Gold= cardmember doesn't need minimum distance from home to receive said assistance; Green= cardmember must be 50 miles from home minimum to qualify for roadside assistance). That said however, I already have AAA auto, so no need for that, and don't attend super desireable concerts/events too often.
What I DO want however, is the ability to transfer points for frequent flyer miles via Membership Rewards standard points, since that's arguably the best way to utilize their points. Again, Zync cannot do this, but the next tier up at Green can, which is my reasoning.
I plan to do possibly book a flight in the near future, so I'm considering the Green offer I found of 10,000 points if you spend $500+ in a three month period, plus annual fee waived. That's the same deal going for basic Gold right now, so no loss there.
As far as my personal bio, I'm not a huge spender. The Zync/Green would probably be the highest tier I'd go within the next few years anyway with my income/spending. Also, my credit is solid, always paying in full, low utilization, though I'm 24 w/ somewhat little credit history, so the Green sounds like the next step.
I guess I wanted to ask, for those who have it, do you love it? What do you like/not like about it? Are there any who have switched from Green to Gold+ beyond? Just want to see what others think about the card and the potential move I may make I suppose.
