Here is what i recommend. Tell them you are a member of this forum and you know Mike on a first name base. That will do the trick but just in case, you can also tell them that to get Gold status here, you must be an American Member.

Tell them you will appreciate it if they will reconsider you even with a low credit limit. Try explaining how responsible you are, you pay all your bills on-time, your friends and family are Amex Member but you have to do this and avoid sounding desperate.
