    Default First American Express card?

I would like to get my first American Express card. I have been pre-selected for the Blue and Delta Gold cards. I have Wells Fargo and Chase Freedom cards with large limits and a few store cards with smaller limits. My current total credit limit is about 21,000 with a utilization of 10%. I was thinking about getting the Delta Gold card?

Texas Guy, you should go for the card you like and the one that fits better based on your needs.

Check AMEX website and compare those two cards. I think Delta Gold has $95.00 annual fee while the Blue card does not have an annual fee.

Just my two cents... if you like to fly Delta and is a frequent flyer, then Delta card will give you more advantage.

Right now what i recommend is the Premier Rewards Gold Card

They have a limited time referral offer my buddy just emailed me, you get 25,000 Membership Rewards bonus points when you spend $2,000 within 3 months of Card membership. You get triple points on airfare, double points on gas and groceries, and one point on everything else. Plus an additional 15,000 bonus points each year when you spend $30,000 in a calendar year. You get the AF waived for a year and you can always switch after 13 months. This is a good offer, you normally have to apply for platinum to get this bonus.

It always depends on your needs/spending habits- though I hear the Delta card is an easier one to get approved for.

If I had to do it all over again w/ a first Amex card, I'd heavily consider the Costco True Earnings Amex. Like many others, I tend to purchase a lot of gas (3% cashback), and dine out (2% cashback). It does require that $50 annual Costco membership, but I'd say it'd be worth it if you eat/travel a lot.

On the other hand, if you do travel considerably, go for a charge card of theirs. More bang for your buck as far as frequent flier points go I'd say.

It is all about you and what fits your expenditures. If you spend a lot on airfare, gas and groceries then like mentioned above, the Premier Gold card is for you. If you spend a lot on dining out and gas, then the True Earnings would be the best for you. There are so many options these days, you just need to decide what best fits you.

There are a few other things to keep in mind: you can apply for another AMEX later if you find that several might reward you. Also, just because they send you a pre approval letter does not mean you get the card automatically. They have not checked anything on you expect your name and address that is sitting in their advertising department bank of names. And last thing, I wouldn't apply for AMEX's top tier cards first like the Platinum or the Delta Reserve (those with her AF of $450) as they are harder to get and require some history inside AMEX.

I checked one of my free credit reports and American Express has made several inquiries on me. I assume that they looked at my account history.

They reviewed it to determine if you fit their credit profile. If you do, you will start receiving things in the mail from them. I would wait until they start offering rewards points.

Default First Card- AmEx Zync Approved!

    Hello,

I am a 21 year old college student who has never had a credit card. The only credit I have is a few student loans which I haven't started paying yet. I decided it was time for me to get a credit/charge card to start building credit. So, I applied for the American Express Zync and I got instant approval! I know a lot of people try and figure out what the qualifications for AmEx cards are so ask if you have any questions about my history.

Also how do you know if you have a pre-set limit? They never mentioned anything about a limit in any of the emails I got, and my card hasn't come in the mail yet.

    Thanks!
