    Default Amex car buying service...

    Has anybody used it?

    I've been thinking about a new vehicle and yesterday went on the Amex site and filled out the specs for what I want, sent the form and received a price quote that I could live with.

    Then I was contacted by two different dealers, neither of which had exactly what I wanted. Both agreed to keep an eye out for the truck I want, spec'ed exactly as I told them.

    What I'm wondering is if this goes through, do I have to charge the entire purchase to Amex card? (The Amex site seemed to contradict itself on this point). Also, is the dealer somehow bound to complete the deal via Amex since that's how the initial contact was made? If it becomes apparent to me that I could do better by abandoning the Amex process in favor of whatever dealer incentives are available, I would, of course, prefer to do that.

    No personal knowledge of the service, but it seems to me like just another referral service, not much unlike cars.com. They take your info and basically sell it to the dealer. I've never found a dealer that would put the entire price of a new car on a CC, so post your results. I have read that the AMEX car buying service is run by a website called zag.com, and that they are obligated to allow you to put $2K on an AMEX card.
