    Default Gold card and events

Who uses the Gold card on this forum? How often do you get special invites or pricing to events? I recently purchased some concert tickets at ticket master.com and it advised me that I could use my points to offset the cost. After the purchase, it said that I didn't have enough points to take advantage of this. How do you get the most bang for your buck with this card?

I have a platinum now but used to be gold. I used points a few times to buy or offset the price of tickets. It can be done and is actually fairly easy.

As far as special pricing and invites, I get emails every week or two with invites. But most of the events are in New York which does me no good. You can also get on the AMEX website and look for events.

Thanks DH. I don't know why I haven't searched the site. How do you like the platinum?

I love the platinum. I avoided it for a while because of the price. But it's definitely been worth it. Gotten lots of free stuff, upgrades, and fee wavers. The $450 cost is down under $100 for me this year and that's not including upgrades and other perks that I would not have bought.

Basically, $450 -$200 (airline credit) - $25 (statement credit for some offer) - $150 (free food and drinks at a couple of hotels) = $75 net cost. Then I've gotten 20% off about $2500 in car rentals for another $500, room upgrades, and about $300 worth of discounts on airline tickets and concert tickets.

So, not bad I'd say. I travel some obviously but not a huge amount. All the travel was personal travel. I travel for work sometimes but never use the platinum for that.

I really might give that a shot. I travel enough that hotel discounts and such would be helpful.
