Default Annual Fee for Membership Rewards

I noticed on their website under annual fees:

    http://www.membershiprewards.com/cat...=1#ELIGIBILITY

that they state the annual fee for the program is $40. They say, however, that the green and gold you don't have to pay the annual fee.

What about the Zync? I know the Zync is under the "Express" rewards...but do you still have to pay the annual fee to be in the program on top of the $25 annual fee of the card?

I had a Gold card in 1999 when the annual fee was "only" $75. If I wanted Membership Rewards there was an additional fee for that. Many years ago, AMEX did away with the lower annual fee Green and Gold cards. With the current cards' higher annual fees ($95 for Green and $125 for Gold), MR is already included. I would imagine that there are cardholders who were grandfathered into their Green and Gold cards (like I would have been had I not closed mine). So AMEX probably still offers MR points a-la-carte for those people; hence the $40 fee.

Zync uses MR Express like Blue. MR Express is not the same as MR and I do not believe you can add MR points to Zync. Zync offers additonal "packs" that may or may not have an additional fee wherein you may customize the card. Zync is heavily marketed towards the Gen Y crown in an attempt to get young people interested in charge cards.
