Approved for bce, what now?

Postby Jrobnc » Fri Dec 02, 2011 12:25 am

I've been lurking around this forum for a while and finally decided to sign up. I applied for the blue cash everyday last week on thanksgiving day and was approved.. I've been reading and I wish I had applied for the zync on the same day/same pull. Now that it's likely too late for that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on any other cards I maybe should apply for/ would be approved for before the Amex pull shows up? I've been thinking about the chase freedom but really wasn't sure. Here's my current accounts:

Wellsfargo student card- 800 limit
1fbusa student card 2250
Belk card 150
And now the bce ( I called and they said 2300)
I also have 20k in student loans reporting that's have not entered repayment yet because I'm still in school.
My AAoA is approx 1yr 6 months With nothing bad.

I got the acceptance letter from Amex which said my ex score was 745. I pulled my other two fico's a couple months ago and they were both right around 730. I believe I have 3 pulls on my eq/tu reports and once the Amex shows up then 4 on ex.

Any advice or tips would be great.. Thanks.

Congrats on your approval.

I am not sure what your chances are with the Chase Freedom. Chase generally likes to see longer credit profiles; however, Your Milage May Vary (YMMV) and you could be approved. The thing is though, they have been sending out pre-approvals to people left and right. So you may wait for ones of those to show up, unless you find that you want the $300 bonus that they are offering right now. Chase generally pulls Experian.

I believe your best bet at this point would be a Citibank Forward, Simplicity or Platinum Select card.

You mention the student loans. Are they all subsidized? If unsubsidized, are you paying the interest every month? If you have unsubsidized studen loans I recommend paying the monthly interest the following reason: if you don't pay the interest, your loan balance will exceed the original loan balance, so for instance, on your bureau it could show a $5,133 balance on a $5,000 loan.

Does it seem like it would be a good ideal to request an increase on the wells or belk cards? As soon as I get the Amex I plan on using that for everything for a while until I apply for another card. I'm thinking I'll wait 6 months or so before applying for another even though the penfed platinum would be great for me at the moment because I spend probably 500 a month on gas so 5% would be nice but Im not really sure I could get approved right now.

I have been on my current job for almost 6 months and once I hit that mark I plan to pay as much as possible each month on my loans, I've got 1 and a half years left in school so I'm hoping to get those balances down substantially before they enter repayment because about half are unsubsidized.
