Thread: Gross vs Total Annual Income On Application, Made Accidental Lie

I was reading online about credit card applications, and I saw that the credit card applicant should put their entire household income into the income question box, so during my application for an American Express Zync card, I put my household income in the "total annual income" and they are asking for a confirmation of income.

Am I in the wrong? should I send them my pay stub with my portion of the annual income? without informing them that I put in the gross?

Or is it supposed to be the gross annual income?

very confusing, oct 2010 when I applied for the green card the application account mgr asked me my income. I gave him my gross salary for the year. I asked him did he want income from money markets or mutual funds he said whatever I wanted. so I just left it the way it was.

I don't think you are wrong. the question might have been difficult to figure out. I would call them up and ask what figure do they need from you. yearly gross salary or salary from all accounts incl savings, money markets and mutual funds?

I am a bit confused. Gross Annual Income and Total Annual Income are usually considered the same thing. This is the amount of income before taxes and deductions. Net Annual Income would be Annual Income minus taxes and deductions.

I agree you should call them to be sure that you send them the documentation they want. If you claimed $100k in Gross Income they may want to see proof of the income regardless of source. Did you include a roommate's income in the "household income"?
