AMEX Premier Rewards Gold vs Platinum
Some years back I applied and was approved for both cards, and since then I have been using them indistinctly, both of them live in my wallet, and some how for the last couple of months I barely used the Platinum card.
Base on my current expenses habits, the Premier Rewards Gold looks more profitable than the Platinum.
AMEX should really start thinking on improving Platinum benefits. I know the card is meant for travel and leisure, but it should also be able to offer good benefits for daily use, like improving the MRP per usage.
I am wondering why the points per dollars are better on PRG than Platinum. What a heck, even the new low end AMEX - MB card has better points per dollars than the Platinum.
What do you think?

wouldn't shock me if the green or gold has better points per dollar than the platinum.
so are you keeping your platinum?

If you just want points then you can do better than platinum. But you are ignoring lots of other benefits, especially if you travel or use higher end businesses.
But even if you only care about points, you need to factor in the redemption ratio. The points program with platinum is different. You might get fewer points but the ones you get are worth a lot more.

Generally most people go with the platinum for the travel perks like lounge access. If it's just points that you use the Gold with lower AF may be the better bet. Like most things it's different for everyone. Look at the different reward structures compared with level of monthly spend. Then add into it the additional perks of the Plat and decide if the additional cost is worth it for your needs.

Do not get me wrong, i have nothing against any of the card. I am pretty clear about which is the target usage of each card. My hole point is since the Platinum card is a top notch card, it should have, at least, the same perks and rewards deals than all the other cards.
I am quite happy with both cards, and as far as i concern, i do not have plans to quit on any of them.
