Thread: Thinking of upgrading to Premier Rewards Gold - but first a question

I have a green card and I'm thinking of upgrading to the Gold Card mainly for the slightly better rewards (3X on airfare). The question is, do airline tickets need to be purchased through Amex travel or will I get the triple points even if I just call the airline and book? I don't see this addressed on the Amex website.

So I guess when you say airfare you travel on business? so how do you like your green card?

I would think you can purchase airline tickets anywhere and get your 3x points. because let's say for example your company has you do your travel plans at work on the company computer. you would use the travel company that your business tells you to use and for anybody who has a gold card, I would assume they get 3x the points even outside of American Express. I could be wrong but I'm guessing.
