    Post AMEX Airport Lounges

Do you know that AMEX has Airport lounges in Mexico's airport or Argentina's airport, or Paris airport, Hong Kong's airport, and in another couple of countries. All these airports also have lounges from Priority Pass, Admiral's Club, etc, etc, etc...

But here in the US, AMEX has none. Not a single one in any of the major airports. I am wondering why?

Because they don't need them. There are plenty of other lounges to use here.

AMEX also has a lot more offices overseas. I've wandered into AMEX offices in other countries many times for various services even before I had their card.

Money card, I have been using airport lounges for some years now, and I can tell you they can be very useful.

For example, once in Houston, my flight was delayed due a tornado warning, and while everybody was in the waiting areas around the airport, with no place where to seat or all the restaurants packed, I was on Admiral's lounge relaxed, eating and drinking, free, using internet, watching TV, even sleeping, and when the warning was over, one of the CR came to wake me and let me know the new schedule for my flight.

AMEX lounges are quite good in Mexico, Paris and Argentina, they have noting to ask to any airline lounge. In Mexico and Argentina you can use them even if you are not flying. You can go and have drinks, snacks, fruits, bottles of water, news papers, magazines, for free. I use to go every sunday morning to have breakfast there while i was reading the news papers and only giving good tip$$$ to the waitress and waiters. Additionally i use to take every single magazine issue from 6 to 8 different magazines, from magazines about watches, times, golf, real state, culture, pop culture, arts, travel, and each of those magazines are not cheap, might cost moren than 5USD per issue, you do the math.

And the lounge in the waiting area before the boarding is even better, the gave you an in flight kit with sleepers, tooth brush and tooth paste, cream, also you can get fruit and drinks to take into the plane.

In both cases, you have free internet access, TV, movies, even xbox or what ever game console the have.

The lounge in Paris even has a small gym with full lockers that you can use, and off course it includes sauna and showers.

Probably i will miss them if i am flying with continental or united. Maybe not if there is any US airways lounge in the airport that i can use.

A useful benefit for AMEX Platinum cardholders is the included Priority Pass membership.

Priority Pass has a network of lounges around the world. Primary and I believe secondary cardholders can sign up and gain access to these clubs at no extra cost, regardless of which airline you are flying with.

To access DL or AA lounges you have to have their respective boarding pass.

I have used them. I used to be a Red Carpet (united) member. I've also used lounges recently with my amex. Definitely nice for longish wait but I rarely bother for a half hour wait or less.

Pete838, you are right, now that Priority Pass lounges were added to AMEX Platinum card, the benefits of the card are even better

Just a quick comment, the primary holder have free access to any lounge, but any guest (family or not) must pay $27USD per visit.

That is correct. Your Priority Pass card is linked to your Platinum card, so if you bring a guest your card is automatically charged for their access.

Priority Pass is nice because it doesn't matter which airline you are flying on, and they are at major airports all over the world.

I don't consider the Priority Pass Select card they give you to be very useful actually. It mostly works only on international lounges. When you fly in the US you already get in the lounge on Delta or some other carriers. I mostly fly united and it doesn't work with them. So I would need to go to a completely different terminal, usually through security again, just to use a lounge. Not really worth it. Icoule just use a US Air lounge if I wanted. Platinum get you into those even if flying a different line.

The lounges really come in handy on long layovers; several hours. They aren't all on the 'dirty' side of security. PP has something like 600 locations, so for a free (or included) benefit I'll carry the card just in case. Here's a list: http://www.prioritypass.com/Members/...eDirectory.pdf

The US Air lounge access is a nice benefit, but they don't have any locations in any of the airports I frequent, except for maybe TPA, but anytime I'm there I'm originating.
