Default Amex SPG CLI @ 61 days

Opened Amex SPG 61 days ago. It was my first Amex card. I was shocked to find out I was only approved for a low $1500. That still won't deter me from from spending $15K in 6 months to get the bonus points. I just had to pushed payments the 1st month and paid multiple times the 2nd month.

I requested a CLI by calling the # on the back of the card yesterday. Asked for $5000 and they counter with $4500. That's about 3x $1500, which is standard from reading around the forums. I have marked my calander for another CLI in 6 months. It's still my smallest CL compared to my Freedom, Discover, Sapphire Preferred but I am pretty certain Amex will grow with me.

    Congrats on the increase.

Has anybody suffered a FR from Amex after requesting a CLI? Just wondering if they are still actively doing those and what may cause one.

Glad to hear they increased your limit. I thought the original $1,500 was plain silly.

I took it kind of personal and thought Amex didn't want me to obtain the 15,000 bonus pts by spending $15K in 6 months. Kinda hard to do that when your limit is only $1500. I really like to get the CL to around $20K in 2yrs.
