Thread: Amex backdating - it can be a process sometimes

With this third account my second Amex from 2000 immediately showed up the first time I logged onto the website and I requested a card with that Member Since date and that was easy for them to see.

For getting to 1991 (my first account) I ended up calling "both" numbers. The number on the back of the card and the number on credit report.

Neither could find the account the first time I called each number ..... or the second time I called each number.

emails didn't help either.

Then I tried the card-back CS number again and got someone who was able to find the account.

so Dan how do you like your green card? do you use the card for business, personal use or both?

I use it for personal stuff as the job provides me with (and expects me to use) their Citi Advantage for business expenses.

To be honest with you Dan, I'm disappointed I have a Green card. Like yours it's a personal card, but a lot of people use this card for business and personal use. Our annual fee is 95.00. 1 night I called American Express up and asked them if they could help me make dinner reservations at the Palisades Mall. They have a Chilis, my friend and accountant asked to be taken there along with his family too. they told me on the Green they don't do things like that, they said the Platinum does that. Do I want to upgrade? I told them 450 for a card, no. I told him I have a capitol 1 card with a concierge, that I could use that. the account mgr said that would have to be a decision I would make. My friend did my taxes that's why I took him out.

I found out even in malls on Saturday nights Chilis doesn't take reservations. At least my Visa Signature tried. I did use my Visa over American express.

Imagine coming off a long flight, people who travel on business, there's a crowded convention and you're having trouble finding a restaurant. Let's pick a busy city, how about Chicago. The American Express Green won't help. Imagine how people must feel. They pay 95.00 a year. They can get better assistance with a Capitol 1 card which has no annual fee.

The Green is very nice looking card and an executive style card. Not a company card, but it's not the Blue Cash either. It would be nice to get a little more assistance with the personal Green.

I know what you mean. My no-AF Discover has concierge service (haven't tried it yet).

Sort of a silly question, but is this backdating applicable only with their charge cards, or any of their cards (charge/revolving)? Probably going to go with the Zync route if so.

It works for both the credit and the charge cards provided that they can locate the previous account. For instance, if you have an Amex in 1987 and closed it in 1989 it is probably long gone and they won't backdate.
