Default Glad to have my AMEX back ...

It is one of two cards I never got in trouble with. The other was my ATT credit card. Hey I got it on campus and it was 'in' since it was part of that time traveling TV show lol

Then one day I finally, totally, paid it off (something like $12,000) ............ and cancelled it. I suppose I should have just kept it.

It was the other credit cards that I got after college that got me in trouble. Then in 2001 the income stopped and the trouble came home to roost.

I put in for bankruptcy (and the lawyer messed that all up and it never finalized) but it bought me time.

But I had to fix the car (to make money again) and used the AMEX for that but was unable to pay the card so it eventually got cancelled.

I once offered to pay that balance, AMEX always having come thru for me, but they declined. I forget the exact reason, something like it had been written off/expensed. The phrase may have been 'charged off'.

It wasn't until this past week that I was finally able to get my AMEX back. I have two other cards (and some student loans) that I've been using for several years to build the credit rating back up.

But I'm glad to have the AMEX back, the automatic perks, the customer service, the rewards, maybe its just nostalgia.

The card says 'Member since 11' but my online profile shows 'Member since 2000' haha

Once you are good with Amex you can upgrade or apply for their better cards quickly. Later this year I would try upgrading to the Gold with Premier Rewards and then if you want to go higher, Platinum the next year. If you upgrade your existing account ask them to match the offers online for the upgrade and if they won't do that then open up a new account to get the offer.

By the way I have the business Platinum and starting out didn't have the best credit so to speak.

In another thread n777ua mentioned ficoforum.

Out of curiosity I went over there and found this little gem from RayRocks:

    Looks like backdated - yes!

I would call them and ask them to issue you a new card reflecting this date - they will do this for you.

    Ray

I think I'll make a phone call tomorrow

    I got my '00' yesterday.

Everything else is the same. Didn't even need to activate it (I did a test getting some McDonalds health food).
